The Cobra Lily, often found in Oregon and Northern California, particularly in mountainous regions, presents one of the most spectacular pitfall traps resembling a striking cobra. Its pitchers can grow up to an impressive 90 cm tall. The maroon and green flowers bear a resemblance to the Snakes Head Fritillary, adding to its allure. This vigorous plant possesses a quick-growing rhizome, readily colonizing large containers as new plants sprout from the pot’s edges. Hardy down to -13 degrees Celsius (at our nursery), it thrives in dappled shade, with avoidance of midday sun recommended. Keeping the roots cool is essential for optimal growth. We maintain it in water trays alongside Sarracenias and exclusively use rainwater for watering.
