Dionaea muscipula ‘FLEXX’ is a distinctive and highly marketable Venus flytrap cultivar, valued for its unusual trap formation and strong visual appeal at point of sale. This variety is characterised by its flexible, often twisted trap lobes, giving each plant an individual and slightly sculptural appearance that stands out clearly from standard Dionaea forms. The deep green foliage, frequently flushed with red under good light, enhances its decorative value throughout the growing season.
As a temperate carnivorous plant, Dionaea muscipula ‘FLEXX’ attracts insects using nectar and sensitive trigger hairs, snapping its traps shut when prey is detected. This natural feeding mechanism provides all required nutrients, eliminating the need for fertilisers and making aftercare straightforward for retail customers when correct guidance is provided.
For best performance, ‘FLEXX’ should be positioned in bright light, ideally full sun, and watered exclusively with rainwater or demineralised water. The compost must be kept consistently moist, never dry, and free-draining carnivorous plant compost is essential. This cultivar requires a winter dormancy period, during which growth slows and traps may die back; this is a natural and necessary phase that ensures vigorous regrowth in spring.
